Biography
Dr Liu is working with Antimicrobials against Ocular Pathogens (AMOP) in Biomarkers & Anti-infectives Research Group. Dr Liu’s research interest focus on discovery and development of nature inspired peptides and xanthones small molecules based antibiotics for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by multi-drug resistant pathogens such as P aeruginosa, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), tuberculosis (TB), candida and fusarium. Dr Liu’s researches works are carried out by the use a combinational approaches of rationale design of molecular drug, solid phase peptide synthesis, organic and medicinal synthesis, microbiology methods, biophysical study, NMR and molecular dynamics (MD) based on our well-established platform from multidisciplinary fields collaborations.
Research Interest
Development of cationic antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and small organic molecules including natural compounds and their derivatives based antibiotics for eye and skin infectious diseases; Development of biocidal surface/medical device and implant by approaches of covalently linking or incorporation of antibiotics to surface for artificial cornea implants and other application; Design, synthesis and characterization of new peptides-, polymer-peptide conjugations- and polymer/oligomers- based biomaterials and molecular probes for biomedical application, e.g., conjugated polymers-based fluorescent biosensor for sensing and detection of pathogen, ions, bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), some important bio-macromolecules such as NDA and ATP.
