Dr Yong Li

Biography

As a key SIPRAD investigator, Dr Li is one of the team leaders in SIPRAD program to develop a unique industry-standard research platform. He has demonstrated track record and expertise in clinical and translational ophthalmology to contribute towards the furtherance of the SIPRAD mission. Dr Li also has a long-standing interest in developing novel animal model for the therapeutic industry. He has served as a project leader of ocular pharmacology, providing scientific leadership and involved in comprehensive understanding of clinical aspects as well as drug development of the human disease therapeutics. A significant impetus for Dr Li’s research has been the translation of laboratory advances into clinical trials of novel therapeutic. This was exemplified during his career with Allergan where he was involved in commercialization of Ozurdex for diabetic macular edema (FDA approved) and DARPin-based anti-angiogenic drug for Wet AMD (Phase III).

Research Interest

He has taken special interest in developing animal models in diverse animals in ocular inflammation; retinal angiogenic diseases included Wet AMD and diabetic retinopathy, macular edema and Uveitis, to test the diverse experimental therapies. His experience as an accomplished ophthalmologist involves hands-on microsurgical skill, ocular imaging, electrophysiology as well as drug delivery and histology in patients and diverse animals (from mice to monkeys).
