Biography
Eric Chuah is the Director and General Manager of Straits Construction. He is responsible for establishing and overseeing work processes and procedures for project management, construction and commissioning. Eric first joined the company as a site engineer in 1989. He was promoted to Project Manager and Senior Project Manager in 1992 and 2001 respectively. He was appointed Project Director in 2004 and Executive Director in 2010. As a young site engineer, Eric’s very first project was a HDB residential project located in Jurong West with a modest size of 400 units. Today he oversees projects that are five-fold larger in scale and more complex in nature. Eric was also one of six pioneer HDB precast builders in the early 90s and has seen first-hand how construction methods have evolved over the last two decades. With the industry decidedly different today than it was 20 years ago, he continues to champion new and sustainable construction methods, leveraging on new techniques and technology to improve construction productivity. Eric has enjoyed a successful career with the company and takes great pride in grooming engineers and building award-winning projects. He is highly regarded for his commitment to quality and safety, and works tirelessly to monitor project performance, ensuring that client expectations are met, and that cost, schedule, safety and quality goals are achieved. Eric was an active basketball player and an accomplished scout during his school days. Today he stays healthy and active through leisure sports such as swimming and bowling. Eric graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Structural) from Kingston University, formerly known as Kingston Polytechnic, United Kingdom in 1987.
