Biography
Wong Chee Herng is the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Straits Construction. Chee Herng became Deputy Managing Director in 2000. In 2008, he became Managing Director assuming full responsibility for the running of the business. Under his leadership, the Group grew at a significant CAGR of 28% during 2006 to 2013. This was amidst significant changes in the market economy, labour and workplace policies. A second generation leader of the family business, Chee Herng had spent many school holidays at construction work sites. He would accompany his father to construction projects in new towns and over the years, he has witnessed the industry go through its paces and changes, and how a good builder can make a difference. Safety and quality are his top priorities. Starting out as a fresh business graduate, Chee Herng entered the family business at the lowest rung as assistant supervisor. He earned his spurs as a builder by learning the art and skills of project management as well as acquiring the virtues of honesty, integrity and prudence under the tutelage of his father and founder of the Group, Wong Swee Chun. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1994. He is an avid golf and fitness enthusiast, and a keen entrepreneurship advocate as a member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization Singapore and Young Presidents’ Organization.
