Dr Ting Peter

Biography

 ·         Dr Peter Ting is a cardiologist practising at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He has special interests in non-invasive imaging and management of heart valve disorders and coronary artery disease. ·         He also plans structured lifestyle therapy programs for patients to reverse or slow the progression of coronary artery disease, as well as treat other lifestyle related conditions such has hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity, thereby reducing reliance on prescription medications. ·         Dr. Ting studied medicine at the National University Singapore, graduating in 1999. He trained in internal medicine and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians United Kingdom in 2002. He subsequently underwent specialty training in general cardiology at the National Heart Centre Singapore, and went on to receive subspecialty training in preventive cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and adult echocardiography at the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, one of the leading heart institutes in Canada. ·         He was trained in advanced echo techniques, gaining experience in the use of contrast echocardiography to enhance the accuracy of assessing heart function and diagnosing coronary artery narrowing. He also gained experience in the diagnosis and evaluation of valvular heart disorders using newer 3-D echocardiography techniques to aid planning and guiding of both surgical and minimally invasive treatments. ·         Dr. Ting has additional qualification in sports medicine from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and is experienced in the use of cardiopulmonary exercise testing in the assessment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as evaluating the performance of athletes. He is board member of ACSM’s global “Exercise is Medicine” initiative in Singapore. ·         Dr. Ting has mentored and taught medical residents, students, nurses and fellows. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals or presented at both local and international scientific meetings, where he has also been invited to speak regularly. He was Adjunct Assistant Professor with Duke-NUS graduate medical school, senior clinical tutor with Yong Loo Lin School of medicine, as well as core faculty for the Singhealth cardiology residency program at Singapore General Hospital. ·         Conditions that Dr Ting treat include coronary artery disease, valvular heart disorders, infections of the heart, adult congenital heart conditions, systolic and diastolic heart failure, heart muscle disorders (cardiomyopathies), disorders of the large blood vessels of the heart, irregularities in heart rhythm, e.g. atrial fibrillation, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and fatty liver, peripheral arterial disease, smoking dependence, pulmonary hypertension, deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, cardiac tumours and disorders of the pericardium (external covering of the heart)
