Biography

  Dr Yeoh is an endocrinologist specialising in thyroid disorders and diabetes mellitus. She was awarded the Ministry of Health’s HMDP (Health Ministry Development and Planning) scholarship in 1986 for Endocrinology in diabetes mellitus. With the scholarship, Dr Yeoh studied under Professor John Turtle, Head of Department of Endocrinology (an eminent academician awarded by the Order of Australia) at the University of Sydney. Subsequently she was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, teaching Hospital of the University of Sydney, in collaboration with Professor Robert C. Baxter, Professor of Biochemistry, to do clinical research on insulin-like growth factors and their binding proteins. The outcome of this research was presented at the Endocrine Society of Australia in Sydney in 1987 and subsequently at the International Diabetes Federation Meeting in 1988 in Sydney. It was published in the European Journal of Endocrinology in Copenhagen, with citations by various medical journals including top medical journals in USA and Europe amounting to 91 citations thus far. On her return in 1988, Dr Yeoh became a plenary speaker in the First Annual Scientific meeting held by SGH in 1988, speaking on the topic of pancreatic transplantation, entitled "Beyond Insulin". Subsequently she has been a speaker in many local and international meetings, and served on various organising committees for conferences involving Asean nations, the Mayo Clinic Update and Ministry of Health Specialist Training Committee for Endocrinology. She has been a Fellow of both the American College of Endocrinologists and the Singapore Academy of Medicine, as well as a Member of the Endocrine Society of USA and New York Academy of Sciences.
