Biography
Ms. Plasencia holds a Ph.D. in Medicine (2002, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona) and a B.Sc. in Chemistry (1995, Biochemistry specialist, Universidad de Barcelona). She developed her doctoral thesis in the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the Oncology Department of the Hospital Universitari Germans Trias I Pujol where she specialized in pre-clinical evaluation of antitumor agents and the evaluation of resistance mechanisms to chemotherapy. She joined CRIC after spending two years at the University of Southern California (California, USA) where she developed her work as Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department of the School of Pharmacy. She is specialist in biochemistry, biomedicine, oncology and molecular biology including the application of new technologies such as proteomics and genomics in drug discovery and development. Ms. Plasencia has also been part of multidisciplinary teams engaged in R&D projects for national and international public institutions and pharmaceutical corporations. She has published many times, with contributions that include articles in international and national journals, reviews and book chapters. Dr. Plasenica has acted as evaluator of proposals for European Commission FP7 Health and NMP programs and Marie Curie Actions on several occasions, and also as a short-term lecturer for several organizations in Europe on Ethical Issues in European projects.
