Biography
Catholic University of Louvain Law school graduation (1977), articles at law with “Liedekerke, Wolters, Waelbroeck and Kirkpatrick” and military duty as Para-Commando Officer. Moved to the USA (1980) as Finance and Administration Officer of subsidiary of Carmeuse, a major chemical lime Belgian Group. Joined Lafarge (1982), one of the cement and construction materials world leaders, holding various operational and functional responsibilities in Paris, Dallas, and Calgary. Chief Financial Officer of the Bekaert (1992). Returned to Lafarge (1998) as member of the group executive committee and president of its Aggregates and Concrete division, until his resignation (2004). Non-executive Chairman of the board of Cobepa (2004), a Brussels based private investment firm; he stepped down as chairman in 2010. Director of Carrières du Hainaut, largest European blue stone producer (2005) and Chairman from 2015. CEO of Joris Ide Group (2008), leading west European producer of metal roofing and cladding products, and Chairman (2011 to 2015) Co-owned and chaired ISFI (2008), a spice company and appointed as MD (2012 until its sale in 2014). Chairman of the STAK Bekaert (2011), representing the interests of the reference shareholders of Bekaert. Held several other board positions, among which: Assubel Accidents du Travail (1996 to 2000), chairman of Redland UK (1998 to 2004), Brett Ltd, UK (2005-2008), Deep Green, a Belgian soil remediation business (2006–2008). Associate member of the Round Table of European Industrialists (1983 to 1985). Founder of the CSR - Philippe de Woot Award, an inter-university initiative to promote CSR among students.
