Biography
Dana Marekova gained my skills in areas of organizational development, campaigning and fundraising by working with diverse organizations and teams, while living in different parts of the world. After graduating from the Commenius University in Slovakia (year 1999) with a law degree, she continued studies at the Columbia Law School in New York. During that time she also volunteered for a legal aid corporation and a community-organizing group in low income Afro-American and Hispanic neighborhoods in Brooklyn, NYC. From 1995 as volunteer and from 2000 to 2014 as employee she was part of the VIA IURIS (formerly know as CEPA) - the first public interest law organization in Slovakia. Dana Marekova started media communication of VIA IURIS, helped to develop, later lead its fundraising and coordinated legal projects, while consulting on law, fundraising and development issues mostly for Slovak environmental and human rights organizations. Since 1995 she is member of ELAW - world-wide network of renowned environmental lawyers and scientists.
