Biography
Dr Andy Branfield is currently a sports physician at the Centre for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics (CSMO), but also holds qualifications in diving and submarine medicine, aviation medicine and hyperbaric medicine, and has experience in tropical medicine, anaesthetics and trauma. He is also in general practice in Randburg, where he works in a large, mixed general practice treating patients of all ages, predominantly families with children, and recreational sportspeople. As well as being the medical adviser to the Transvaal Speleological Society and Mountain Club, he is also a committee member of South African Hyperbaric and Underwater Medicine Association and a member of a variety of associations within sports medicine and branches thereof. He is been the International Ice Hockey Federation Medical Supervisor for International Ice Hockey Tournaments since 2004, and is the match doctor at a variety of professional sports matches including Super Rugby, Springbok Rugby, IPL Champions League, and various local and international cricket tournaments.
