Johan Van Der Merwe

Biography

Van der Merwe leads a multidisciplinary portfolio of projects that forms part of the CSIR’s research and development into information security. A recently completed multi-year project on optical coherence tomography delivered a technology platform which now has the ability to be commercialised into multiple minimum-viable products to cater for various market needs.

Research Interest

Van der Merwe’s expertise lies in the field of software and electronic engineering from where it has grown to the wider systems engineering domain as applied to high-tech industry, specifically information security. As research group leader, he has developed and implemented identity authentication strategies and focused on innovation and new product development.
