Po-hsun (paul) Cheng

Biography

Cheng holds a postdoctoral degree in Genetics from Stellenbosch University. His areas of interest are in the monitoring of water quality in rivers and lakes using model organisms such as algae, aquatic organisms, macrophytes and yeast. He has experience in the development of novel treatments and remediation techniques for contaminated sites using wetland plants and algae that is adaptive, tolerant to climate change and self-sustainable and which has a positive impact on the livelihoods of people in a polluted area, aquatic environment, agriculture and mining sector.

Research Interest

Cheng’s key competencies are using specific enzyme classes and genes as biomarkers of model organisms as tools to forecast and analyse the impact of xenobiotic agents and emergent pollutants caused by anthropogenic activity with a view of developing green, innovative technological ideas in problem areas.
