Biography
Ashley is a Research Scientist at IBM Research in South Africa. He is currently working in the Digital Urban Ecosystems programme, which aims to develop smarter cities by tackling problems including traffic congestion, energy, and pollution. Prior to joining IBM, Ashley founded GreenMatters Engineering, a renewable energy company focused on solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies. Ashley worked as and Analytics Consultant at Deloitte for two years, developing data-driven solutions for clients in the Banking, Healthcare and Telecoms industries. During his academic career, Ashley obtained two undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering respectively, and received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for the top student at Wits University in 2011. Ashley complete his PhD at Wits University in 2016, which focused on image processing algorithms for automatic lip-reading. Ashley is a Research Scientist at IBM Research in South Africa.
