Biography

"Miriam Mattison began in 1996 with her undergraduate studies in what was then still known as the Human Movement Studies Department here at Rhodes. In 1999 she completed her BSc degree with Human Kinetics and Ergonomics as one of her majors, followed by an Honours degree in the same department the following year. After spending two years in the ‘working world’ she returned to Rhodes University to complete a Masters degree in Ergonomics in 2004. In her MSc thesis she investigated the effectiveness of an ergonomics intervention by employing a combination of field and laboratory research. For this project she subsequently also won the K.U.Smith Student Paper Award presented by the International Ergonomics Association. She is currently employed as a Junior Lecturer in the HKE department, teaching Pure and Functional Anatomy and Data Analysis. She is also the first year course coordinator. Between her teaching commitments she conducts research in the area of musculoskeletal disorders prevalent in South African industries and is studying towards a Post-Graduate diploma in Higher Education."
