Biography
Arend Carl is a professor in the Department of Curriculum Studies at the Faculty of Education at Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He served as Vice-Dean (Learning and Teaching) in the faculty from 2007-2016. His main research focus is on curriculum theory, social sciences and the role of the teacher as a key stakeholder or curriculum agent in successful curriculum development. He is a curriculum specialist who has written extensively on the subject of Curriculum Studies.
Research Interest
His book Teacher Empowerment through curriculum development is widely used at South African universities and the 5th edition is to appear in 2017. He has also made a number of presentations at both national and international conferences with regard to this field. He also has a C-3 National Research Foundation rating.
