Dr Abdul Latif Alhassan

Biography

bdul Latif Alhassan, Ph.D. is currently a Lecturer in Finance at the UCT Graduate School of Business, South Africa. After his Master’s degree in Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Ghana Business School, he was appointed as a Teaching and Research assistant at the Department of Finance before obtaining his PhD degree at the UCT Graduate School of Business. Latif was actively engaged in the implementation of a capacity building programme for farmer-based organizations in eight African countries on behalf of the Farmer Organization Support Centre in Africa (FOSCA) programme of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). He was as also part of a team of consultants that undertook a survey study on crossborder trade in nine countries drawn from Western and Southern Africa on behalf of Africa Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK). Latif has previously worked with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and the International Banking Department of SG-SSB in Ghana. Since 2013, he has been the Associate Editor of the Development Finance Agenda (DEFA) magazine and was recently appointed as an Associate Editor of the DHET accredited Africagrowth Agenda (AGA) journal. Latif’s research focuses on the industrial organisation of the financial services industry as well as the broad area of Development Finance. Specifically, his research enquiry is geared towards the understanding the firm behaviour, operational and regulatory environment of insurance markets in emerging economies. Latif has several peer-reviewed accepted and published articles in the Chartered Association of Business Schools (ABS) ranked; ISI, IBSS, SCOPUS indexed journals including; Geneva Papers on Risk and Insurance-Issues and Practice; Management Decision; Research in International Business and Finance; Economic Systems; Journal of Economic Studies; Managerial and Decision Economics; Review of Development Finance; Managerial Finance; the International Journal of Social Economics; Economic Change and Restructuring; International Journal of Emerging Markets and the African Journal of Economics and Management Studies. He also undertake ad-hoc refereeing for ABS ranked; ISI,IBSS,SCOPUS indexed journals including African Development Review; Applied Economics, Research in International Business and Finance; Review of Development Finance; The Journal of International Trade and Economic Development; Managerial and Decision Economics; African Finance Journal; the Journal of Risk Finance; Journal of International Trade Law and Policy; International Journal of Emerging Markets; Measuring Business Excellence and Journal of African Business.
