Biography
Prof Anja Franken’s research is focused on the in vitro skin permeation of platinum group metals and the different factors potentially influencing the skin permeability. Her focus has expanded to include the investigation of the skin as a barrier and workplace factors that may influence the effectiveness of this barrier. She is registered as an Occupational Hygiene Technologist with the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH). Prof Franken lectures both undergraduate as well as postgraduate modules in Occupational Hygiene. She is part of the team that has developed and is presenting the first professional degree in Occupational Hygiene in South Africa (BHSc in Occupational Hygiene).
