Biography
Derick de Bruyn was identified by the Department of Architecture at the University of Pretoria for his recognised practice profile and therefore was appointed as full-time staff member in 2009. He currently co-ordinates the second year undergraduate program while teaching second year construction, theory and environmental history. He is the coordinator for the BHons research field studies elective. He has been an external examiner at the Universities of Cape Town, the Free State and Witwatersrand, and the Tshwane University of Technology.
Research Interest
Derick de Bruyn has written articles and delivered conference papers which have been published by the South African Journal of Art History. He is currently engaged in a PhD study concerned with subversive social place during apartheid South Africa. His main research interest is the hermeneutical understanding of architecture situated in South Africa and how that translates into a design theory.
