Biography
Professor Duard Kleyn was a former dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria (1998 -2006). He holds the degrees BA LLB LLD (UP). Professor Kleyn was admitted as advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1979. He was appointed in 1981 as lecturer in the Department of Legal History and promoted to senior lecturer in that same year. In 1988 he was promoted to professor. In 1997 he was appointed as deputy dean and in 1998 as dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria and served as dean until 2006. He was appointed as the first visiting South African fellow at the Department of Private Law, University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he lectured in Advanced Property Law from 1 October 1996 to 31 January 1997. He was appointed as visiting professor in the law faculty, Erasmus University, Rotterdam from 1 September 1997 to 31 December 1997 where he lectured Legal History (Private Law).
Research Interest
His main areas of interest are constitutional protection of property, law of things, legal history, property law and roman law.
