Biography
Dr Eric Dada MUNGATANA was appointed research fellow in CEEPA on 01.03.2004. Prior to this appointment, Eric served as Chairman of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Resources Management in Moi University, Kenya where he taught courses [and supervised students] in the field of natural resource and environmental economics at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Apart from his doctorate level training in resource and environmental economics, Eric has also attended the following specialized courses organized by the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics: Accounting for Urban Environment [2004]; School on Ecological Economics and Conference on Theoretical Topics in Ecological Economics [2003]; Advanced Course in Computable General Equilibrium Modeling and the Environment [2002]; Advanced Course in Property Rights Structures and Environmental Resource Management [2001] and Advanced Methods in the Economic Valuation of Environmental Resources [1998]. In 2003, he also attended the course Environmental Economics and Policy Making offered by the Environmental Economics Unit, Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg. While serving at Moi University, Eric did consultancies for some international and national organizations including the International Fund for Animal Welfare [IFAW] 'Investigations into the Environmental Impacts of the Proposed Tiomin Ship Loading Facility at Shimoni, Coastal Kenya' in 2001; the World Conservation Union [IUCN] East Africa Regional Office in 2002 and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis [KIPPRA] 'Application and Use of Economic Instruments for Environmental and Natural Resources Management' in 2003-4. He presently serves as Research Associate at the Kenya Institute of Public Policy Research and Analysis [KIPPRA] and Research Associate at the Bureau for Environmental Analysis [BEA] International in Nairobi, Kenya. At CEEPA, he coordinates the Natural Resource Accounting Program for Eastern and Southern Africa, whose main objective is to motivate and encourage countries in the region to construct and make greater use of natural resource accounts for macroeconomic policy analysis in support of sustainable development.
