Biography
Joel M Modiri holds the degree LLB (UP) and is currently completing his DPhil studies at the University of Pretoria. Prior to his appointment as Lecturer in the Department of Jurisprudence, University of Pretoria, Mr Modiri worked as as a lecturer in the School of Law, University of the Witwatersrand in 2015 and before that as an assistant lecturer in the Department of Jurisprudence, University of Pretoria in 2014. He mainly teaches Jurisprudence and Legal Philosophy. He has also been a guest lecturer for law subjects such as Social Justice and Human Rights, African Human Rights, Research Methodology (postgraduate), Legal Problems of HIV & AIDS and he has also taught portions of courses in Philosophy and Public Policy presented by the Faculty of Humanities.
Research Interest
Joel’s main research focus areas are Critical Race and Postcolonial Theory, Law and Identity, Feminist Legal and Political Philosophy, Black and Africanist Political Thought, Legal Education and Critical Pedagogy as well as Critical Theories of Human Rights and Constitutionalism.Â
