Biography
Johan Lötz is a professor in the Department of Mercantile Law and holds the degrees BIuris, LLB and LLD from the University of Pretoria and LLM from Wits. He is an attorney and conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa. He joined the Department of Mercantile Law, University of Pretoria, in 1977 as a teaching assistant. In 1978 he was appointed as a junior lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law. He was employed as a clerk of the court, prosecutor, magistrate and state law adviser by the Department of Justice between 1972 and 1982. After completion of his articles during 1983 and 1984, he was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1985 and has been practising as such since then. In 1987 he was appointed as a senior lecturer and was promoted to associate professor in 1995. In 1997 he became a full professor.
