Biography
Melanie Roestoff is professor of the Department of Mercantile Law. She holds the degrees BLC, LLB, LLM and LLD (Pret). The title of her LLD thesis was “’n Kritiese Evaluasie van Skuldverligtingsmaatreëls vir Individue in die Suid-Afrikaanse Insolvensiereg†(A Critical Evaluation of Debt Relief Measures for Individuals In the South African Insolvency Law). Melanie was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in April 2010. She joined the Department of Legal History, University of Pretoria in 1987 as research assistant. In 1989 she was appointed as an estate controller at the Master of the High Court’s office, Pretoria. In 1990 she was appointed as lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law, University of Pretoria and promoted to senior lecturer in 1993. In 2003 she was promoted to associate professor and in 2007 to full professor.
Research Interest
Her main areas of interest are consumer insolvency law, credit law and aspects of banking law.
