Biography
Prof Saloshna Vandeyar is a professor in the Department of Humanities Education, University of Pretoria. She is interested in the implications of teacher and student identities in constructing classrooms inclusive of racial, linguistic, gender and ethnic identities and in promoting Intercultural, Cosmopolitan and Social Justice Education. She has shifted the debate in the field from an approach of 'pathology' to one of 'portraiture'. Her current projects are on ‘Immigrant student identities and ethnically diverse Black {South African} student identities in SA schools. Future research will explore immigrant teacher professional identities and immigrant academic identities. She also plans to continue her research on pre-service teacher education. Her work has received several awards that have earned her national and international recognition, the most recent being the EASA Research medal 2011 and the international AERA Division K Mid-career award 2011.

Her main research interests are Diversity in Education and Teacher Professionalism.
