Biography
Theuns is a Chartered Accountant SA, with a PhD degree in Taxation. He also holds a Master’s degree in Taxation, and a BCom and a BCom (Hons) degree in Accounting Sciences. He is currently the Head of the Department of Taxation at the University of Pretoria. He joined the University of Pretoria in 2004 and since then he is the Programme Leader for the master’s degree in taxation. He presented lectures for taxation students, both on an undergraduate and a postgraduate level. Since joining the University of Pretoria Theuns assisted both Masters- and Hons students with the research part of their specific programmes, by acting as their study leader. His experience at the University of Pretoria also includes acting as the Head of the Taxation Department for over three years. During his years at the University of Pretoria he also acted as an external examiner on a master’s and doctoral level for other Universities.
Research Interest
His research interests include the tax burden of individual taxpayers, as well as the perceptions of these taxpayers related to their tax burden.
