Biography
Mr Tshepo Madlingozi holds the degrees LLB LLM MSocSci (UP). He is currently a PhD candidate at Birkbeck, University of London. Tshepo has taught Jurisprudence 120, Introduction to Law 110 and 120, Historical Foundations of South African Private Law 110 and 120, and Human Rights 220. He has convened African Human Rights Law 410 and Street Law 410. He has coordinated a module in the LLM Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa programme. Tshepo’s main areas of interest are decoloniality and epistemologies of the Global South; race, racism and constitutionalism; social movements and legal mobilisation; and critique of transitional justice processes and mechanisms. Madlingozi is research collaborator for the research project 'ALICE: Strange Mirrors, Unsuspecting Lessons' coordinated by Prof. Boaventura de Sousa Santos at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, Portugal. He has undertaken consultancy work for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Pan African Parliament, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and Freedom House - Southern Africa. In July 2008 the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development appointed him to the Advisory Committee of the South African Law Commission: Project 25 on Statutory Law Revision which involved scrutinizing all legislation administered by the Department of Provincial and Local Government with the view of identifying all redundant provisions and determining compliance with Section 9 ("the equality clause") of the Constitution.
