Biography
Prof Julia Sloth-Nielsen was Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2009 to 2013 at University of the Western Cape. She teaches children’s rights, international family law and child justice. She was a member of the project committee of the South African Law Commission which drafted the Child Justice Act 75 of 20078 and the Children’s Act 38 of 2005. She also has expertise in criminal justice and prisons. She was elected to the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the child in January 2011, and in November 2012 was elected 2nd vice chair.
