Biography
Amanda Rousseau is currently working as Professor of chemistry at University of Witwatersrand.
Research Interest
Her main area of interest is in the design and synthesis of compounds with the potential to display antimalarial activity. Recent research has focused on the synthesis of inhibitors of folate metabolism within the malaria parasite, with a particular emphasis on the use of the parasite’s arsenal of enzymes to synthesise potent antifolates from advanced precursors in situ. Another area of interest is in the use of multi-component coupling reactions to synthesise complex molecules in a single transformation. This strategy is currently being employed in the synthesis of spiroindolones as potential antimalarial agents.
