Biography
G Bouwer is currently working as Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at University of Witwatersrand. Academic thrust: Microbiology and Biotechnology Research field: Agricultural and Environmental Biotechnology/Invertebrate Pathology/Microbial Pest Control/Biocontrol/Bacteriology
Research Interest
Research focuses on agricultural biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, biological control, and invertebrate pathology. Current research thrusts focus on different aspects of the bacteriumBacillus thuringiensis, insect-infecting baculoviruses, plant compounds with pest control activity, and the development of biopesticides (pesticides based on naturally occurring substances or microbes that control pests) for the control of plant pests and disease vectors such as mosquitoes. Molecular biology is an integral part of several of the research projects.
