Biography
Maya Mellisa Makatini is currently working as Associate Professor of chemistry at University of Witwatersrand
Research Interest
current research focus is in the field of synthetic peptides, mainly in the following topics: The design and synthesis of wound healing and antimicrobial peptides and peptidomimetics. The design and synthesis of organic compounds and peptides targeting plant, animal and human diseases. The synthesis of peptides, peptoids and peptidomimetics that can be used in diagnostics. Determination of organic compounds and peptides’s 3-D structures using NMR (ROESY/NOESY). Chromatography: Characterization and purification using LCMS and Prep-HPLC respectively of peptides.
