Biography
Nikki Gentle is currently working as Associate Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at University of Witwatersrand. Academic Thrust: Applied Bioinformatics. Research Field: Immunogenetics and Functional Genomics
Research Interest
She mainly focuses on Molecular and Cell Biology. Her research focuses on examining how regional demographic and evolutionary events have shaped patterns of genetic variation in the South African population, with particular emphasis on understanding how these patterns of genetic variation influence host immune responses to pathogenic infection. To do this, They use a combination of computational and experimental techniques to (1) identify and characterise genetic variation within genes involved in the immune response, (2) investigate the potential functional consequences of these variants in relation to immune responses, and (3) evaluate the clinical significance of these variants in the context of pathogenic infection.
