Biography
Pieter De Maayer is currently working as Associate Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at University of Witwatersrand. Academic thrust: Microbiology and Biotechnology Research field: Prokaroytic genomics and ‘omics; extremophile biotechnology
Research Interest
His research interests are Prokaroytic genomics and ‘omics; extremophile biotechnology. research is centred on the use of state-of-the-art genomic, metagenomic, transcriptomic and other ‘omic technologies to gain better insights into various aspects of bacterial biology, their evolution, metabolism and physiology. Specific focus areas include protein glycosylation, flagellar motility, the role of plasmids in ecological diversification, secretion systems and secretomic analysis and the mechanisms used by bacteria to survive in extreme environments.
