Biography
Prof Tamiru Abiye is currently working as Associate Professor of Geosciences at University of Witwatersrand. GROUNDWATER expert who is devoted to training and research in the broad field of Hydrogeology. Advocate for an efficient Groundwater management across Africa for sustainable development, Represent Africa on Continental and World level in groundwater related issues. Play a leading role in Groundwater Science and management in South Africa.
Research Interest
His research areas cover community water supply problems (availability, pollution assessment, management), water quality assessment (chemical, bacteriological, organic) and monitoring, hydrochemical modelling, groundwater flow and transport through heterogeneous aquifer materials, trace metals in groundwater, basin scale water balance, surface and ground water interaction dynamics, aquifer vulnerability to pollution assessment (DRASTIC method) and mapping using GIS, climate change impact study on groundwater, interactions of water contaminants with with aquifers, hard rock and soft rock aquifer characterization, spatial and temporal variability of groundwater recharge, environmental isotopes (Stable and radioactive), numerical groundwater modelling, hydrogeological mapping, lake and wetland hydrology and groundwater management.
