Biography
Roger A. Sheldon is a Distinguished Professor of Biocatalysis Engineering at University of Witwatersrand. His main area of interest is in green chemistry.
Research Interest
His main area of interest is in green chemistry and the development of atom and step economic catalytic processes, with low E factors, for sustainable manufacture of chemicals. Within this general theme, he is particularly interested in the application of biocatalytic methods in organic synthesis and processes for the conversion of renewable biomass to chemicals and fuels. Within the area of biocatalysis, he is particularly interested in the development of methodologies for the immobilization of enzymes, in order to enable their cost-effective utilization based on multiple recycling. Recently, attention has been focused on the development og magnetic cross-linked enzyme aggregates (magnetic CLEAs) which can be separated magnetically. Another area of interest is catalysis, in particular biocatalysis, in alternative reaction media such as ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents.
