Biography

Dr. Nigel Dunn-Coleman has held a number of positions in research including serving as a Visiting Scientist at DuPont (Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A), Scientist at EscaGenetics in San Carlos, CA (U.S.A.) and Staff Scientist at Genencor International (a DuPont Company) in CA (U.S.A) prior to fund AlerGenetica S.L. at the end of 2007. At Genencor International he has been the project leader on a number of important projects like the production of Bioethanol, 1-3 Propanediol (bio-based nylon) and recombinant expression of Chymosin in Aspergillus (given F.D.A. approval) . In addition he was a member of the Proposal Study Panel to review DNA sequencing projects for the USA Government Department of Energy.More than 50 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals including Nature Biotechnology.More than 220 international patents between granted and pending applications, in the fields of industrial microbiology and biomedicine.Ph.D. in Genetics at the University of Glasgow, Scotland (U.K.) and carried out postdoctoral research at the Universities of Glasgow, Scotland (U.K.) with Professor J A Pateman and at the Biology Department, University of Virginia (UVA), Charlottesville, Virginia (U.S.A.) with Professor R. H. Garrett. His B.Sc. Biology Double Honors from the University of Salford (U.K.) obtaining the Biology Prize for the highest graduating student from the Department of Biology. Dr. Dunn-Coleman was a visiting Professor of Microbiology at the University of Manchester (U.K.).Dr. Dunn-Coleman´s work has earned him numerous awards including the 2003 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for Microbial production of 1,3 Propanediol, the 2005 DuPont Sustainable Growth Excellence Award Bio-Based Materials for the Noteworthy Achievement of Production of Bio-PDOTM from Renewable Resources, the 2005 R&D Magazine Research 100 award for bio-ethanol production, and the 2007 Heroes of Chemistry award at the 234th ACS National Meeting in Boston for the Bio-PDO(TM) as a new 100 percent renewable ingredient.
