Biography
Medical Doctor and internationally renowned researcher, pioneer in the development of diagnostic platforms for the development of new cancer therapies. He is Chair of the Department of Pathology and Professor of Genetics and Genomic Science at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital. He was Professor of Pathology and Urology at Columbia University in New York, Associate Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Vice-Chairman of the Pathology Department at Columbia University School of Medicine. Previously, he spent 24 years at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he created and was the first director of the Molecular Pathology Division. Dr. Cordon-Cardo has also played an important role as founder and promoter of new biomedical technology companies, including Impath Laboratories (now a subsidiary of Genzyme).Dr. Cordon-Cardo has received numerous national and international awards for his scientific achievements and leadership in oncology. He is co-inventor of Atrys’ diagnostic platform, and co-discoverer of the biological mechanism by which a single session of a high dose radiation treatment succeeds in healing malignant tumors, which is the biological basis of the SD-IGRT.
