Juan Fernando Padín Nogueira

Biography

Dr. Juan Fernando Padín Nogueira has a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) (2001) and PhD in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology (Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy) from the same University (2007). He is currently Coordinating Professor of the subject of Pharmacology, Anesthesia and Nutrition of the third year of the Medicine Degree, in the Faculty of Medicine of Ciudad Real, University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). Previously, he has worked as Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of USC (2008-2010), and as Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) (2010-2017), as well as Researcher at the Instituto Teófilo Hernando (ITH), where he has been a member of its Board of Directors (JUDITH) (2015-2017). Further, His research activity has focused both on the search for new drugs and on the study of pathophysiological mechanisms in order to establish new therapeutic targets. In relation to the search for new drugs, he has worked at the Institute of Industrial Pharmacy of USC (2003-2007), developing antiasthmatic and antipsychotic drugs through public-private funding. In addition, he is the author of an Industrial Invention Patent (P201730458) developed through the UAM Laboratories Bioibérica SAU of Chronic Inflammation and Cytoprotection (CABICYT), where he collaborated in the preclinical development of a drug with analgesic activity, which is being developed clinically for the treatment of neuropathic pain (2010-present). Regarding the study of pathophysiological mechanisms, his research activity has focused mainly on the study of the involvement of alterations in mitochondria and homeostasis of intracellular calcium, His research activity is reflected in his participation as a researcher in 20 projects of public financing (national and European) and private; in its more than 30 articles published in international impact journals (such as J of Physiol, J of Hypertension, Pluggers Arch Pharmacol or Mol Pharmacol), 8 chapters of books (such as Velázquez, Basic and Clinical Pharmacology), and more than 120 lectures, and scientific communications in congresses. In addition, he collaborates with the publication of articles in the national magazine "Actualidad en Farmacología y Terapéutica", which is the magazine of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology. He has organized on three occasions the Congress of the Spanish Network of Neurotransmission and Neuroprotection (GENN Network) as Vice-President (2011 and 2015), and Secretary (2017); and the Congress of Pharmacologists of the Community of Madrid (FARMADRID) as President (2015). In addition, he is a member of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology (SEF).
