Biography
Dr. Mairena Martín López was born in Calzada de Calatrava (Ciudad Real), attended the first cycle of the Degree in Chemical Sciences at the University College of Ciudad Real and the specialty of Biochemistry at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He graduated from this University in June 1982. Later he specialized in clinical biochemistry, working in different hospitals in the capital for several years. He combined this professional activity with the teacher in the EU of Nursing of Ciudad Real, where he began after completing his degree. In 1986 he joined the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Castilla-La Mancha where he began his research. She is a Doctor by the UCLM (1991). She has worked as a Full Professor at the School of Nursing in Ciudad Real and as a university professor since 1998. She is the principal investigator of the Ciudad Real Neurochemistry Group (GNCR) and her research activity has focused on the study of neurotransmitter receptors and its relation with the processes of excitotoxicity and cell death, characteristic of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's or other dementias. He has participated in regional, national, European and private research projects and has published numerous articles in international journals of recognized prestige.
