Joan Gómez Pallarès

Biography

Joan Gómez Pallarès (born Igualada, 1960) has a PhD in Classical Philology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) (1986). In 1988 he joined the Department of Latin Philology at the University of Barcelona before returning to the UAB, where he has been a full professor since 2002. He has participated as principal investigator in more than twenty national and international projects and he is the author of an extensive bibliography, mainly on Latin literature, Latin epigraphy in verse and mosaic inscriptions, as well as Roman gastronomy. In 2000, he was awarded the Distinction for the Promotion of University Research by the Regional Government of Catalonia, in its first call. He has been Deacon of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, Vice-Rector of Doctoral and Continuing Education Programmes, Vice-Rector of Research and Vice-Rector of Economic Policy and Planning, all at the UAB. He has also been Vice-President of the Consortium of University Libraries of Catalonia (CBUC). He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC) for ten years (2002-2012). He is a member of the plenary of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI); director of the ICAC since 2013; secretary of the Catalan Association of Research Centres (ACER), and, as a member of the Board of Directors, he is a member of the Board and Standing Committee of the Agency for the Research Centres of Catalonia (CERCA); a member of the Knowledge Territory Innovation Platform (CTI) working group and participated in drawing up the Agenda for the Innovation and Competitiveness of Catalonia 2015-2020; and a member of the Appeals Committee of the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU).
