Biography
Dr. Olalla Iglesias obtained her bachelor´s degree in Pharmacy at University of Salamanca in 2007. She continued her studies with a Master´s degree in Molecular & Cellular Biology at University of Navarra. Afterwards, between 2008 and 2013, she did her International PhD at the laboratory of Cellular Therapy of the Dr. Felipe Prosper at the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) of the University of Navarra. Her research was focused on the study of the regenerative potential of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells in a model of acute myocardial infarction in mice. In 2011, during her PhD, she visited the laboratory of professor Juerguen Hescheler at the Institute of Neurophisiolgy of the University of Cologne (Germany), where she analyzed the phenotype and level of maturation of iPS-derived cardiomyocytes. Upon completion of her PhD, she continued her scientific work at theCIMA, from 2013 to 2015, developing different strategies to promote the engraftment and survival of iPS-derived cardiomyocytes. In March 2015, she joined as a postdoctoral researcher at the Center of Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona (CMRB) focusing on the differentiation of hESC/hiPS cells toward functional cardiomyocytes for pre-clinical testing in large animal models.
