Biography
Santiago Roura holds graduate and PhD degree in Biochemistry from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Universitat de Barcelona, respectively. Since 2002 he is investigating the potential of cell therapies and tissue engineering to recover post-infarcted myocardium in Dr. Bayes-Genis group at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona) and Institut d’Investigació en Ciències de la Salut Germans Trias i Pujol (Badalona). Moreover, he is one among the researchers envisaging nanosized extracellular vesicles derived from mesenchymal stem cells as novel therapeutic tools and to control undesired immune responses in translational nanomedicine. During his trajectory, he has also paved the way for elucidation of the basis governing idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, the most frequent etiology of non ischemic heart failure, and to developing further treatments to counteract irreversible myocardial damage, as well as clinically relevant blood markers with diagnostic and prognostic value. In 2016 he was contracted as a Researcher Associate by CMR[B] to specifically collaborate in several long-term projects focused in novel approaches of cardiac tissue engineering.
