Ignacio Gil Bazo

Biography

    Graduate (1999) and Doctor (2004) in Medicine and Surgery by the University of Navarra obtaining for his doctoral thesis the Extraordinary Doctorate Award. Specialist in Medical Oncology at the University of Navarra Clinic (2004). He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, within the Cancer Biology and Genetics Program.   He obtained the Certificate in Medical Oncology in 2012 by the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO).   Consultant of the Department of Medical Oncology.   Codirector of the Lung Cancer Area at the University of Navarra Clinic.   Since 2015 he is Co-Director of the Department of Oncology and Director of the Department of Medical Oncology at the Clinic. Research Areas Director of the Laboratory of New Therapeutic Targets of the CIMA, with special interest in lung cancer, mechanisms of drug resistance, mechanisms of metastasis. Clinical investigator having participated in more than 15 clinical trials as principal investigator mainly in lung and prostate cancer and in more than 20 as co-investigator. Member of the editorial board of the World Journal of Gastroenterology until 2010, reviewer of the journals Cancer Research, Tumor Biology, Clinical Genitourinary Cancer, Chemotherapy . As a teacher Accredited by ANECA as full professor.   Professor Contracted Doctor of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Navarra.   Director of several Doctoral Theses and End of Master's Degree in Oncology.   He has lectured at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, the Memorial Sloan-Ketering Cancer Center in New York in the United States, the Universidad San Pablo CEU in Madrid, the Autonomous University of Madrid , at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​at the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) in Madrid, among others. As researcher He has published more than 50 articles in scientific journals mainly indexed internationally, among them (New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Oncogene, British Journal of Cancer).   He has presented more than 40 scientific papers at international oncology conferences.   Co-author of a book on Cell Biology and several chapters of books on oncology.   Member of the Research Commission of Clínica Universidad de Navarra.   Researcher of the CIMA where he runs the laboratory of New Therapeutic Targets.

Research Interest

 Study and treatment of lung cancer with special interest in new target-specific biological therapies and clinical trials against lung cancer. Study of biological mechanisms of drug resistance in lung cancer. Study of the biological mechanisms that facilitate the metastasis of lung cancer. Study and treatment of prostate cancer with special attention to new drugs in clinical trials.
