Biography
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia (1980). Doctor in Medicine and Surgery by the University of Navarra (1992) with Cum Laude qualification and Extraordinary Prize of Doctoral Thesis. Specialist in Cardiology at the University of Navarra Clinic. He completed his training with stays in hospitals abroad (Toulouse Dr. Jean Marco 1986 and Washington DC Dr. Augusto Pichard 1996-97). It also has the subspecialty of Interventional Cardiology (1998) and is accredited by the Hemodynamic Section of the Spanish Society of Cardiology since the same year. Since 2001 he is director of the Interventional Cardiology Service. Research Areas The research area is focused on the study and detection of markers obtained by imaging methods of the vulnerable plaque at the coronary level. Renal denervation, regression of hypertrophy and fibrosis in the left ventricle using markers after renal denervation and treatment of refractory arterial hypertension.
Research Interest
His areas of interest have focused on the treatment of coronary lesions, their evaluation by means of functional assessment techniques, such as the FFR using the pressure guide, and with imaging techniques such as OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and Intracoronary Ultrasound (HV or virtual histology and IVUS). Its treatment with 2nd and 3rd generation stents, as well as with resorbable stents, and by rotational atherectomy techniques. He was one of the first cardiologists to begin using coronary stents in Spain and the first to use OCT for the study of vulnerable coronary plaques. currently, performs all treatments for ischemic heart disease. For years, all the treatments of Structural Cardiology have been performed, Perioperative Foramen Oval (FOP) closure with scopia and without ultrasonography, interauricular communication closure (CIA), left atrial appendage closure, patent ductus arteriosus closure, pulmonary valvuloplasty and percutaneous aortic prosthesis implantation. He is currently the first Interventional Cardiologist in Spain to perform a renal Denervation with Tetrapolar catheter.
