Biography
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Zaragoza. Degree of doctor by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarra. Specialist in Allergology at the University of Navarra Clinic. He completed his postdoctoral training at the Division of Allergy of the State University of New York. Subsequently, he joined the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care of the Medical University of South Carolina, where he remained until his reinstatement to the Clinic. Scholar of the Harvard Macy Institute, Harvard Medical School. Director of the Department of Allergology and Clinical Immunology of the Clinic University of Navarra. Research Areas In his professional career he emphasizes his research in chronic urticaria. At present, he focuses his work on the study of the activation and role of basophils and the response to immunomodulators. In recent years he has added to research urticaria in the design of immunotherapy using nanotechnology. She is co-author of two international patents on nanoparticle immunotherapy. He currently directs two national multicenter clinical trials. The first on the efficacy and safety of Omalizumab (Xolair®) for the treatment of chronic urticaria (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01713725). And the second for the study of efficacy and safety of Omalizumab in Cholinergic Urticaria (Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT02012387). ACTIVITY As a teacher Full Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Navarra. Director of the Medical Education Unit. He has implemented the Certificate of Medical Education. It has implemented multiple educational innovation initiatives. With their team they have developed a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) on teaching hospital, which is the first one in Castilian language of this type. As researcher He has directed numerous public research projects (Health Research Fund, Government of Navarra, Ministry of Science and Innovation) (€ 594,751) as well as a research project funded by the Ramón Areces Foundation for the study of the pathophysiology of urticaria and for the design of new pharmaceutical forms for nanoparticle immunotherapy. At the present moment he directs a research project on mechanism of action of an immunomodulator in chronic urticaria. She is the author of over 70 articles in international journals and 6 book chapters.
