Biography
"Francisco Marcellán is Full Professor of Applied Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid since October 1991. He has been professor in the Universities of Zaragoza, Santiago de Compostela and Politécnica de Madrid as well as Visiting Professor in the Department of Mathematics of Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. His research interests lie in the boundary of Classical Analysis (Aproximation Theory, Special Functions), Mathematical Physics (Integrable Systems, Random Matrices) and Signal Theory (Linear Prediction and Filters). The main contributions have been focused on analytic properties of polynomials orthogonal in several frameworks (Sobolev inner products, unit circle, matrix of measures, among others). He has co-authored more than 270 research papers, including contributions in top journals of his research area (Constructive Approximation, Journal of Approximation theory, Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications) as well as in other topics (Linear Algebra and Applications and Journal of Difference Equations and Applications). He has been the advisor of 34 Ph D students as well as leader researcher of more than 30 research grants both in the Spanish and international level. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Approximation Theory, Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis, and Journal of Applied Mathematics, among others. During the period 2013-2015 he is a Special Visiting Researcher at Universidade Estadual Paulista, Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil, with a research grant of the Federal Government Program ""Ciência sem Fronteiras"""
Research Interest
Orthogonal polynomials, integrable systems, structured matrices and signal theory.
