Biography
He studied at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he got his Ph.D. at 1980. He is Professor and subsequently Full Professor since 1982. He has enjoy the following positions: Dean of Mathematics, Head of the Department of Mathematical Analysis, Director of the Summer School of the University, and Vice Chancellor for International Affairs. He has been Invited Scholar at UCLA. He has also visited (long term visits) different universities as Kent State University, Heriot Watt University, and University College of Dublin. He published papers in prominent journals in mathematics, in a wide range of fields as functional analysis, differential equations, Riemannian geometry, nonsmooth analysis, and in general real analysis. He is also the author of the book “An introduction to nonsmooth analysis” published by Elsevier (Academic Press).
Research Interest
He is actually working in Real Analysis, specifically looking for wide conditions, not necessarily involving differentiability in order to guarantee the Sard Theorem. He is also interested in how to build pathological functions on finite dimensional spaces and manifolds enjoying previously given nonsmooth properties.
