Biography
Member of the Institute of Medicine; Dean of the School of Public Health, Harvard University (2009 up to date). Advisor of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Medical Doctor with a specialty in public health and a Masters degree in sociology from the University of Michigan. Member of the National Academy of Medicine and of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Member of the Mexican Society of Public Health and of the Mexican Society of Genomic Medicine. General Director and Founder of the National Institute of Public Health (1987–1992); Executive Vice-president of the Mexican Foundation for Health (1995- 1998); Secretary of Health of the Federal Government (2000-2006); Director of Innovation in Health from the World Health Organization (1987-2000).
