Biography
Firat Erdim holds a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the Cooper Union (2001), and a Master of Architecture Degree from the University of Virginia (2007). He gained professional experience in architecture while working in New York at Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, D’Aquino Monaco, and the office of Diane Lewis. Projects he has contributed to include the Headquarters for the International Monetary Fund (Washington, DC), Headquarters for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (Paris, France), Headquarters for Taishin Bank (Taipei, Taiwan), The Center for Government and International Studies (Harvard University, Cambridge), and the Soyak Center (Istanbul, Turkey). He has taught studio and lecture courses in drawing, architecture, and landscape architecture at the University of Virginia, Illinois Institute of Technology, Marwen Foundation, and the Izmir University of Economics, in Turkey. His drawings and constructions have been exhibited internationally, including recent solo and group exhibitions at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (Michigan), the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina, Roy Boyd Gallery (Chicago), the Elmhurst Art Museum (Illinois), as well as 49A and Maquis Projects in Izmir, Turkey. While in Izmir, Firat was the co-founder and director of Flash Atölye, an experimental project space for art and architecture, situated inside a “pasaj” in the city market. His work has been supported by residencies at I-Park (Connecticut), Babayan Culture House (Cappadocia, Turkey), the Vermont Studio Center, the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest (Kentucky). He has been awarded the 2014-15 Rome Prize in Architecture by the American Academy in Rome.
