Biography
Ignacio Santabaya is Of Counsel of the Global Disputes department of Jones Day and he works in the Madrid office of the firm. He has more than 15 years of experience as a lawyer, most of them dedicated to national civil litigation, and national and international arbitration. During his career, he has also acted before the contentious-administrative courts and in insolvency proceedings. Moreover, he has given regulatory and environmental advice. Ignacio has worked for major Spanish and foreign companies of all kind of sectors, including energy, food, tobacco, media, pharmaceutical products, toys, construction, financial sector and private security. Among his recent cases, it can be highlighted that he has represented the Greek subsidiary of a major Spanish energy group in two ICC arbitrations regarding the termination of contracts related to wind projects; several companies of a German metallurgical group in a national arbitration related to the supply of iron products; or Urbaser and Consorcio de Aguas de Bilbao Bizkaia (CABB) in an investment arbitration against Argentina in relation to a water concession. Ignacio has given lessons of International Arbitration (2010) and Environmental Law (2009) in the Master of International Law of ISDE; and lessons on class actions and product liability (2004-2005) in the Master of International Law of Universidad San Pablo-CEU. Ignacio has also been a speaker in conferences about international arbitration and he has written articles on the same subject.
