Biography
He is currently the Director of Energy Derivatives Markets at the “Comisión Nacional de Energía” (Spanish energy regulator). He is also a member of the Technical Committee of the Iberian Electricity Market where he regularly meets with energy and financial regulators from Spain and Portugal. He is also co-chair of the Wholesale Market Surveillance Task Force at ACER (Agency for Cooperation of Energy Regulators).Previously he has also been the Director of Energy Markets in InterMoney Energía (an energy consultancy company). Professor Villaplana regularly gives talks and participates in professional seminars on energy risk management. He also teaches a Commodities course in a Master of Finance and has given some classes on commodities at the Advanced Masters in Finance at Instituto de Empresa. He has published his research in Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics and Journal of Banking and Finance, as well as books about energy risk management and energy markets.
